This page is about ents like Treebeard, monsters like the Balrog, and creatures like Shelob.
Treebeard was an ent who spoke to Merry and Pippin. He always said "Bra-ra-hroom. Don't be hasty." This really annoyed the hobbits. Especially Merry. Pippin tricked him into going to battle by showing him the trees Saruman had ordered cut down. An ent is a tree herder. The elves started it. They woke up the trees, taught them to speak.
Monsters like the Balrog are magic. The Balrog supposedly killed Gandalf. It caught his leg in it's whip and dragged him down into the chasm below the bridge. The Balrog was a lot like the Minatour except the Minotaur wasn't made of fire, and didn't have a sword or a whip. Gandalf killed the Balrog and almost died in the attempt. Orcs are creatures made by Saruman and Sauron. They are mindless and very easy to kill. Uruk-hai are a cross between Orcs and goblins, and are harder to kill. One Uruk was shot twice be Legolas and continued to it's goal. It was blown up. Nice isn't it? It was shot twice and then it was still alive, only to be blown up.
Creatures like Shelob are natural terrors and are not made with magic. Unlike the ents, Shelob and Wargs are very large mutations of common animals in our real world. Wargs for instance, are a cross between wolves and hyenas. Shelob was based on a tunnel web, a spider Peter Jackson is especially scard of. Shelob stung her prey but did not kill them. "She stabs 'em with her stinger and they go as limp as a boned fish." A tower orc said that and unwittingly brought doom upon himself. Shelob liked to eat her food fresh. Blood still flowing, flesh still tender. Normally she ate Orcs but when Frodo came straight to her, she stabbed him too.
