There are countless hobbits, but five, yes, five main ones. Frodo, Sam, Merry, Pippin, and Bilbo. Bilbo found the Ring and left it to Frodo. Frodo, along with Sam, made the long a treachorous journey to Mount Doom. They also encountered Gollum (A.K.A Smeagol) and Sam never trusted him. It was good he didn't for Gollum tried to kill them more than once. Merry and Pippin snuck into the coucil meeting and later on were captured by Orcs and Uruk-hai. They survived Fangorn Forest and both went into battle. Merry snuck in and, in the battle for Minas Tirith, Pippin saved Gandalf, and finally found his courage. Pippin also lit the beacon without permission of his leige.
